DHS PD "Movember" (No Shave November)

The Desert Hot Springs Police Department will be participating in “Movember” (also known as “No Shave November”) during the month of November. “Movember” is an annual event involving the growing of facial hair during the month of November to raise awareness of health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Chief Dale Mondary has authorized members of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department to participate in this event and has waived the standard grooming policy during the month of November in order to allow officers to grow facial hair in support of this national campaign.

Citizens of Desert Hot Springs are also encouraged to help with fund raising by sponsoring an officer. Citizens can choose an officer and donate for them to participate in “Movember.” A $10 donation will get an officer a mustache. With $25 an officer can grow a goatee. With a $50 donation, an officer can grow a full beard. (Disclaimer. Officer’s facial hair shall be groomed and well kept.) Citizens can make their donations at the Police Department. A form will be provided for you where you can put a donation amount and the name of the officer you are donating for.

Every dollar raised supports the efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment. Members of the Desert Hot Springs Police Department are encouraged to donate the money that would typically be spent on shaving and grooming to cancer research and awareness. All monies raised by DHS PD during the month of November will be donated directly to Prostate Cancer Information and Support Group of the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center.
